I make straight photographs from my usual surroundings, and generally, I am somewhat incurious about exploring photographic fantasy. Quite unexpectedly, however, I have found myself at times, in other places. This body of images is a record of my personal pursuit of balance, order, and beauty, while on my untypical journeys in other places.
In these places I quite commonly find elusive perfect symmetry, and most things in nearly perfect order. I have witnessed a transformation of harmony from complete chaos. Ordinary things are revealed to me with mystery and unusual beauty. The bizarre, fantasy-like scenes have intrigued me.
I suspect the photos I make in these other places represent answers, with questions yet to be learned. The images are manifestations of what might be, but otherwise, only imagined. So, now and then for brief periods, I travel through other places to explore areas of mystery that are just beyond real, and make photographs that soothe my soul and stretch my imagination. One particular question I face: “Is it place, or is it a state of mind?”
